Thunder 91.1 Student Station Manager

My project was an internship working at SUU's campus radio station Thunder 91.1. My official position was the Student Station Manager, but I was also a co-host of the morning talk show the Morning Brew. As the Student Station Manager I acted as the head of the station under the Faculty Station Manager Cal Rollins. I was essentially the student in charge of any goings on at the radio station, this included event planning, trainings and overall knowledge of the radio station.

As the co-host of the Morning Brew I acted as the main host. Along with two other students we came in each morning and ran a two hour morning talk show. As the main host I was in charge of producing content for the show. I also helped produce and record many of the promotional commercial's for the show and the radio station.

I decided to use this as my EDGE project because I love music. I got involved with the radio station as a pass time during my second semester at SUU and fell in love with being in the studio. When I was offered the position of Student Station Manager I thought it would work perfectly as my EDGE project and motivate me to get the most out of my internship.

Although my entire internship was challenging, the hardest thing for me was time management. This internship was about 20 hours a week of work and I was doing this all while attending other classes as well as working another job off campus. I think this internship taught me a lot about organization and managing all my responsibilities.

This project not only benefitted me, but also the school and others that work for the radio station. The radio station is a representation of SUU and by managing it and the way it sounds in a way to accurately represent them was great. I also helped teach and train others about how a radio station works.

This project was really beneficial for me because I hope on one day having a job at a big time radio station and making that my career. Working in a functioning studio and learning about all the media and software used to run the station will give me a leg up when applying for jobs in the future!
